Light Sport and Ultralight or Microlight Aircraft
Ultralight aircraft or ultralights: microlights or microlite aircraft in UK, and ULMs in Europe. Some countries differentiate weight shift (microlight) and 3-axis aircraft (ultralites). US Light-Sport Aircraft is similar to Microlight. US Ultralight is a separate class.

E-LSA Exemption Requests Granted
FAA Headquarters has issued two Exemptions for 14 CFR 21.191(i)(1), to allow certification of Experimental Light-Sport Aircraft (ELSA) after the current deadline of January 31, 2008. Make sure you file your 8050-1 and 8050-88A forms – which can be obtained from local Flight Standards District Offices (FSDO) -– because the effective date of registration must still be on or before January 31, 2008.
In both exemptions granted, the exemption-holder – Aero Sports Connection or Experimental Aircraft Association – determines who is eligible to use their exemption authority. Both of these exemptions expire on January 31, 2010, unless superseded or rescinded sooner.

Grant of an exemption to the Aero Sports Connection, Inc., from 14 CFR
§ 21.191(i)(1) to the extent necessary to allow ASC members to obtain
an airworthiness certificate for their light sport aircraft under the
provisions of that paragraph after January 31, 2008, subject to certain
conditions and limitations.

Grant of an exemption to the Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc.,
from 14 CFR § 21.191(i)(1) to the extent necessary to allow EAA members
to obtain an airworthiness certificate for their light sport aircraft

to certain conditions and limitations.
